Peter Brandt designed this model of Elbe 3 already a few decades ago. He redesigned this model completely for HMV, digitalised it and brought it up to our high standards. Some major changes were necessary in order to ensure that the optional Lasercut Set can be used for this model without problems.

This model of Elbe 3 is a classic in more than one way. The original can be seen in Hamburg as part of the museum harbour Övelgönne. Peter Brandt’s model was first published by the company Jade Verlag in Wilhelmshaven back in the seventies. This new and completely redesigned edition doesn’t have much in common with the original model though.

The deck design of Elbe 3 suits a working ship and the lively graphics are in line with the full red of the ship’s hull. The design of the filigree stern was completely tested again and improved. If built correctly and preformed precisely it nestles up against the after deck and the hull without any hassle. The winch, bollards, and other details are now HMV standard and thus this model really has his place amongst the series of HMV museum ships.

The model highlights:

  • weathered decks
  • detailed anchor winch
  • filigree design of bow and aft section of the ship's hull
  • Light system in the fore mast

This ship was built in 1888 at Johann Lange shipyard in Vegesack. As light vessel Weser I, the position was in the Weser estuary until 1966. After that she was positioned in the Elbe estuary until 1977 and named Elbe 3. In the beginning equipped with sails and without an engine she was refitted in 1936, electrified and she got her engine which works until today.

In 1979 Elbe 3 was transferred to the association “Verein Museumshafen Oevelgönne” in Hamburg as a museum ship. Since then Elbe 3 is anchored in the museum harbor Oevelgönne. She possibly is the oldest running light vessel in the world.
