Laid down and built in 1985 at the Northern Shipyard in Gdańsk, Poland, the Konstantin Olshansky became part of the 39th Marine Corps Division based in Donuzlav. Since 1985, it served with the Soviet Black Sea Fleet, carrying out landing operation exercises and missions in the Mediterranean Sea. During the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, the ship was blockaded along with six other Ukrainian Navy vessels in Donuzlav Bay on the night of March 6, 2014. On March 24, 2014, the Konstantin Olshansky was seized by Russian forces.
