This row of buildings ranks among the most celebrated architectural treasures in Gdańsk. The Naturalists' House (Dom Przyrodników) was built at the end of the 16th century in the Dutch Mannerist style. Its most prominent feature is an octagonal tower rising over 30 meters, accessed by a winding flight of 142 steps, which historically served as an astronomical observation tower. Today, the complex houses the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk.
Directly adjoining is St. Mary's Gate, a 15th-century fortified water gate that opens onto the world-renowned St. Mary's Street (Ulica Mariacka), celebrated for its traditional elevated terraces and amber boutiques. The ensemble is completed by the 18th-century merchant house at 13 Mydlarska Street. Following extensive wartime devastation in 1945, these historic landmarks were painstakingly restored to their original appearance during the post-war decades.
