Soviet Hydrofoil Voskhod - Project 352 (1973)
Scale: 1/100
Skill Level: medium
Size (LxW): 276x64 mm (10x2 inch)
Detailed paper model kit of the Soviet passenger hydrofoil Voskhod (Project 352) from 1973, engineered in 1:100 scale. This kit offers an intriguing, entirely civilian project for advanced modelers interested in innovative post-war maritime history.
This kit is defined by its clean, aerodynamic contours, accurately capturing the signature appearance of a vintage hydrofoil. The design features a fully rendered, sleek hull (full-hull configuration) alongside the delicate foil wing assemblies located beneath the waterline. Special emphasis is placed on the detailed passenger cabin with its distinctive window layout, as well as the deck fittings including the radar unit, mast, and life rafts. Due to the fine tolerances required for alignment of the foil profiles and the slender hull, this model demands advanced card modeling experience. Construction is guided by comprehensive technical drawings and accompanying text instructions.
The model highlights:
- Intricate Foil Assembly: The iconic forward and aft underwater foil wings are completely engineered as highly detailed, standalone sub-assemblies.
- Visible Cabin Details: The large window areas are designed to provide clear visibility into the fully interior-detailed passenger seating arena.

The Voskhod (Russian for Sunrise / Project 352) was developed in the Soviet Union during the early 1970s as a successor to the highly successful Raketa and Meteor hydrofoil series, entering service in 1973. These vessels were purpose-designed for high-speed passenger transit across rivers, large reservoirs, and coastal waters. Utilizing wing-like foils mounted beneath the hull, the ship lifts completely out of the water as speed increases, drastically reducing hydrodynamic drag. This allowed for service cruising speeds exceeding 60 km/h. The Voskhod class proved highly successful, seeing large-scale production and international export, with several units remaining in active ferry service today.
