Detailed paper model kit of the British royal yacht Royal Caroline from 1749 in 1:100 scale. This challenging A4-sized kit offers an intricate reproduction of the ornately decorated historical sailing vessel for advanced modelers. 4. About the Model

This kit features a very high level of detail, accurately reproducing the intricate carving work and decorative elements of the historical vessel. The design encompasses a full-hull structure along with a matching display stand. Due to the fine rigging work, numerous small parts for the deck fittings, and the complex hull shape, this kit is intended for experienced card modelers. Assembly is guided by standard technical diagrams and supplementary text instructions.

The model highlights:

  • Display Stand Included: The kit contains parts to build a dedicated display stand for the full-hull model.
  • Optional Sails: The base kit is designed to be built as a rigged model without sails; a matching set of paper sails is available separately.

The Royal Caroline was a three-masted, full-rigged royal yacht built for the British Crown. Constructed in 1749 at the Deptford Dockyard, she replaced the aging yacht Caroline. The vessel was primarily used to transport members of the royal family, particularly King George II and King George III, across the North Sea or along the English coast. While her hull lines were based on a small contemporary frigate, she was distinguished by exceptionally lavish, gilded Baroque and Rococo ornamentation across the transom, galleries, and figurehead.

In 1761, the vessel was renamed Royal Charlotte to honor Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the bride of King George III. The yacht remained the premier ceremonial vessel of the royal fleet for several decades until she was eventually broken up in 1820. Her original design plans and the surviving contemporary scale models preserved at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich have made her one of the most thoroughly documented and popular subjects for 18th-century historical ship modeling.
