The popular Nordstjernen model has been extensively and with much love to detail revised by Carsten Horn for the second edition. In addition to many graphic additions and color adjustments, now the interior of the bridge is included in the kit.

The first edition of the Nordstjernen in 2008 was designed by Peter Brandt and found many fans among modelers. For the second edition, Carsten Horn has taken on the model again and carefully revised the construction and graphics. The style of the construction has been retained in the spirit of Peter Brandt, but some details have been added and the graphics of the Nordstjernen in particular clearly improved even further.

The model highlights:

  • completely redesigned
  • Detailed hull graphics
  • interior of the bridge included
  • detailed capstan

The Norwegian cargo and passenger ship Nordstjernen for the Hurtigroutes was the third new build by the Hamburg shipyard Blohm & Voss after the Second World War. Not least because of this ship, the shipyard was able to regain a foothold in international shipbuilding.

After the end of the Allied restrictions on the construction of seagoing ships, which applied specifically to the Blohm & Voss shipyard until the end of October 1954, it was now able to fully resume its work.

With the successful delivery of the innovative cruse ship Wappen von Hamburg for the Helgoland service, the shipyard returned to the circle of leading shipyards in the world market. After color photos of this first new building after the end of the war were published in the trade press, the Blohm & Voss shipyard moved back into the limelight.

The Norwegian shipping company Det Bergenske Dampskibsselskap from Bergen and two others who were active in the Hurtigrouten business commissioned Blohm & Voss with the construction of three mail and passenger ships, each with a size of approx. 2200 GRT, for their world-famous service, the Norwegian coast from Bergen via 37 harbor places up to Kirkenes. On the instructions of the Norwegian government at the time, it had to be ensured that there was always a proportion of free passenger seats in both classes available for the local population, since these small mail boats, which operated according to a precise timetable, were the only punctual connection on the 1500 km long coast. The Hurtigrouten is a cruising area that is unique in the world and is still very popular internationally. The Nordstjernen sailed on this route until 1994, when it was increasingly used for cruises.

In 2012 the ship was acquired by Vestland Rederi AS in Bergen and a short time later placed under protection by the Norwegian monument protection authority Riksantikvaren. After extensive restoration, the Nordstjernen now has its original chimney mark again and is used for expeditions around Spitsbergen in the summer months.
