Building this fine little beauty is definitely not boring. Most parts are unique and only a few things have to be built more than once. The level of detail is nice and high and enough but not too much.

The colorful Zenit is the first model designed and published by Till Schade. The outstanding fitting accuracy and Till's clever solutions match exactly with the HMV philosophy. The number of details on this little survey vessel are manageable. However you shouldn't understimate this little boat.

Building the model ist not too difficult, but the hull is not as easy as it seems. Two cuts are necessary (one at the bow and one in the middle) to have an accurate reproductions of the original hull. Once the hull is done, the rest is fairly viable. The filigree crane, the lifeboat and the mast are of course pretty detailed, but if you use the extra available Lasercut Set, these parts are quite easy to build as well.

Using the included signal markers you can show Zenit "at work". The signal ball-rhomb-ball on top of each other shows that the vessel cannot maneuver properly - in case of Zenit meaning that she probably is working. The lamps on the other side of the mast show the same at night. In port or at normal speed these signal markers are of course not in the mast.

The model highlights:

  • with bridge interior
  • filigree dhingy
  • detailed mast
  • anchor winch and chains
  • with correct daylight signals

Survey vessels like Zenit are necessary for sounding and surveying the oceans. Zenit is another new ship built on the proven Fassmer-design. Similar ships have been built in 1998 and 1999 for the Water and Shipping Authorities of Emden and Wilhelmshaven.
